A Montreal director of Romanian origin, Dan Popa graduated in film production at Concordia University and works in cinema and design. In 2006, with his colleague Robert Reis, he created the Natali Film collective. In his work, we find a new exploration, both in narrative form and in image processing. Always in search of creating contemporary cinema, he works in multiple new media languages. His most recent project Symphony in Aquamarine (2018), the first feature film, continues the poetic exploration of human nature in the face of its world in transition.
He directed several short films Midi (2008), La Métropolitaine (2010), Taxi pour Deux (2012) and Île et Aile (2014) that won awards in Canada and at several international film festivals. Recipient of two prestigious artistic residencies in Switzerland and Colombia, he is continuing his work in contemporary art with performances and projections broadcast at the CCA, MAC, Usine C, MNBQ, Ferme du Buisson... He is currently working on a second feature film filmed on four continents about the rise and fall of a republic that never existed.
