Normand Rajotte
Quebec

Born in 1952, Normand Rajotte lives and works in Montreal and the Estrie region (Quebec, Canada) A self-taught photographer, from the very beginning he opted for documentary films. This direct approach will have a lasting impact on his practice in the future. In the mid-1980s, through landscape, he adopted a more introspective approach based on self-awareness and a renewed relationship with nature. Several series of photographs will result from this. They will be the subject of publications and numerous exhibitions. Since 1997, his photographic investigation has focused exclusively on a limited territory, Lot 126, a forest below Mount Mégantic, in Estrie. His research is ongoing there. Still using the photographic medium, he has just directed Terrestres, his first film. Since the end of the 1970s, his work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et Lettres du Québec. His works are in several public collections in Quebec and Canada, including the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography (Ottawa), the National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec (Quebec), the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts as well as in the collections of major companies.
